Machine Design

Core equations

P = Tω

ω = 2πn/60

P(kW) = T(N·m) × n(rpm) / 9549.3

Use carefully

  • Rated power is not automatically peak torque.
  • Include efficiency across real transmissions.
  • Check acceleration, jam and shock cases.
  • Verify shaft, key/spline, gear/belt and bearing loads separately.

Useful chain

Motor → coupling/belt/gear → shaft → driven machine. Define power and torque at each interface, not only at the motor.
